Africa, the mother land: Tanzania. UNA GRANDE AVVENTURA MI ASPETTA/ A GREAT ADVENTURE IS WAITING FOR ME

Lo so che volete che io vi parli delle Udzungwa mountains e della loro incredibile bellezza e ricchezza.

E il momento in cui ricomincerò a scrivere sul blog arriverà presto non preoccupatevi.

Al momento però sto organizzando la prossima avventura che richiede un certo impegno e una notevole quantità di lavoro e di tempo a disposizione, mi perdonerete perciò se non vedrete molti articoli e post e foto o video sul blog.

La spinta evolutiva ad andare a vedere il mondo è sempre presente e forte ed ho deciso di non limitarla in nessun modo, perciò tempo fa ho imparato a fare immersioni (Egitto). C’è talmente tanta vita da assaporare in ogni ambiente che francamente mi risulta alquanto difficile scegliere. La mia passione è la savana, ormai ve ne sarete accorti, ma il mare e la montagna sono sempre stati dentro al mio cuore, in uno mi sento libero, nell’altra ci sono nato. E se ci pensate bene ognuno di questi è legato da un filo comune: l’ambiente naturale. Detto questo passiamo ai fatti.

Sono stato sotto il mare ancora una volta, nei fondali di Mafia Island al largo della Tanzania, Africa. E il mio stupore è cresciuto esponenzialmente. Il parco marino  ha protetto l’ambiente sottomarino preservandone l’integrità nonostante in parecchie zone al largo della Tanzania i danni provocati dal Bomb/Dynamite fishing, l’utilizzo di dinamite per pescare pesci senza distinzione di età, spaccando barriera corallina antichissima, che non potrà ricostruirsi che in qualche manciata di secoli, abbiano distrutto buona parte della ricchezza presente nel mare. Al solito i responsabili siamo noi.

Ho fatto immersioni con il Mafia Island Diving Center che consiglio a tutti per la professionalità, l’attenzione, la cordialità e l’atmosfera tranquilla e rilassata. Il diving è una filosofia di vita e la protezione dell’ambiente ne è parte integrante, quindi le conversazioni davanti ad un caffè prima e dopo l’immersione sono quasi sempre orientate a scambiarsi impressioni ed esperienze, con spazio per riflessioni e risate in compagnia.

È letteralmente un paradiso pieno di vita. È incredibile la ricchezza che ho potuto ammirare, non ho parole per descriverla. Dalle piccole cose alle più comuni, ad ogni angolo una scoperta non può che entusiasmarti. Da biologo ovviamente non posso che essere felice come un bambino davanti a ciò, ma ognuno di noi si può stupire della bellezza che ci circonda, imparando e godendone appieno. 
Kinasi pass, Milimani North e South, Chole’s Reef, Corinne’s Reef, Coral’s Garden, Coral’s Reef, Nudibranch’s City sono solo alcuni del dive spots dove potete immergervi all’interno della baia, poi ce ne sono altrettanti all’esterno.

Le immersioni sono legate alle maree, quando questa è alta si va all’interno della baia con visibilità perfetta, quando questa invece è bassa è consigliabile andare all’esterno, sebbene i due ambienti siano totalmente differenti. Nel primo non si va in profondità, il limite massimo raggiunto è 25 m e la maggior parte del tempo si sta tra i 12 e i 18 m con sorprese di  soli – 5 m ed un’incredibile giardino di corallo da scoprire. Nel secondo, invece le immersioni sono profonde e la quantità di pesci imbattibile, con passaggi anche di Marlin e pesci di grossa taglia, qualche squalo (pinna bianca e pinna nera di barriera), delfini e balene con un po’ di fortuna.

Io mi sono concentrato su quelle all’interno della baia, sono stato infatti a Mafia nel momento migliore, appena prima della luna piena e con l’alta marea e David e Danielle, che gestiscono il diving center mi hanno consigliato anche in base alle mie esperienze precedenti e le mie passioni. Attrezzatura nuova affittata al diving center, programma di massima deciso con conferma il giorno precedente, gruppi da 2, 3 persone per divemaster e dhow sailing con partenza dalla spiaggia. Non avevo mai fatto immersioni su una barca attrezzata del genere, è molto comoda e pratica e alla fine della giornata (2 immersioni dalla barca) si ha la possibilità di aprire la vela e navigare silenziosamente in maniera tradizionale con la visione del tramonto dal mare.

Anildo e Marielle, l’uno da Capo Verde e l’altra dall’Olanda sono stati i miei divemasters, conoscendo la mia inclinazione a cercare le cose piccole più inaspettate e a nuotare lentamente vicino al reef senza danneggiarlo, mi hanno mostrato in più occasioni moltissimi animali che non avevo mai visto: Nudibranchi come se piovesse, ovunque, una incredibile biodiversità con decine di specie diverse, flatworms di colori incredibili, vermi della sabbia con forme bizzarre, granchi del corallo e degli anemoni, gamberetti pulitori e boxer shrimps, tartarughe verdi, murene di specie diverse, paguri con la conchiglia adornata da anemoni e coralli, pesci di barriera, pesci coccodrillo, pesci farfalla, pesci angelo e coralli di colori e forme notevoli, una barriera intatta e sana.

Finita la sosta di sicurezza siamo emersi e abbiamo aspettato che il dhow venisse a prenderci, mangiando un po’ di frutta e del Chapati tra un’immersione e l’altra oppure un pasto completo e via seconda immersione dopo il tempo di superficie. 

Tornare, 40 min circa, dal sito di immersione con navigazione tranquilla nel pomeriggio è un piacere dopo una giornata piena di vita.

"If you don’t dive you miss to see more than half of the world"

And I don’t want to miss anything.

Exploration is my passion, I can experience new things that I didn’t know and the more I explore my spirit rises and my heart is happy. "If you know, you see, if you don’t know, you don’t see." There are so many things that I don’t know, but honestly there are also many things that I do know. "What a big Ego! Okay don’t think so highly of yourself! "Okay okay, quiet, return normal, more or less ..."

Evolutionary desire to go and see the world is always present and strong and I decided not to limit it in any way, so long ago I learned to scuba dive (in Egypt). There is so much life to be enjoyed in every environment that frankly I find it very difficult to choose. My passion is for the bush, now this you will have noticed, but the sea and the mountains have always been in my heart, I feel free in one, the other is where I was born. And if you think about it, all of these places are linked by a common thread: the natural environment.

I was under the sea once again, in the depths of Mafia Island off the coast of Tanzania, Africa. And my astonishment grew exponentially. The Marine Park has protected the underwater environment while preserving the entirety despite in several areas off Tanzania damage being caused by Bomb / Dynamite fishing. The use of dynamite to catch fish regardless of age, breaking ancient coral reefs, which cannot be rebuilt for a handful of centuries, have destroyed much of this wealth in the sea. As usual we are responsible.

I went diving with Mafia Island Diving centre that I recommend to everyone for the professionalism, the attention, the friendliness and the atmosphere quiet and relaxed. Diving is a life philosophy, protecting the environment is an integral part of it and conversations over coffee before and after immersion are almost always oriented to exchange impressions and experiences, with space for reflection and laughter in the company.

It's literally a paradise full of life. It's amazing the richeness that I saw I have no words to describe it, from the smallest to the most common, at every corner a discovery to get excited about. As a biologist obviously I am as happy as a child in front of it, but every one of us can be impressed by the beauty around us, learning and enjoying it fully.

Kinasi pass, Milimani North and South, Chole's Reef, Corinne's Reef, Coral's Garden, Coral's Reef, nudibranch's City are just a few of the dive spots where you can go inside the bay, then there are others all outside the bay.

The dives are linked to the tides, when it is high tide you go within the bay for perfect visibility when the tide is rather low it's advisable to go outside the reef, although the two are totally different environments. In the first you don’t go deep, the maximum limit reached is 25 m and most of the time you are between 12 and 18 m with surprisingly many things to see at only - 5 m and an incredible coral garden to discover. In the second, instead the dives are deep and the quantity of fish is incomparable, with Marlins and other large fish passing, some sharks (reef's whitetip and blacktip sharks), dolphins and whales with a little luck.

I focused on the dives within the bay, I was in fact in Mafia during the best time, just before the full moon and high tide so David and Danielle, who run the diving centre, advised me based on my previous experience and my passions. With new equipment leased from the diving centre, program guidelines agreed with confirmation the day before, groups of 2/3 people per divemaster and dhow sailing departing from the beach. I had never dived on a boat equipped like that before, it's very comfortable and practical, and at the end of the day (after 2 boat dives) you have the option to open the sail and sail silently in the traditional way with the sunset view from the sea.

Anildo and Marielle, the one from Cape Verde and the other from Holland were my divemasters, knowing my inclination to look for the little and most unexpected things and to swim slowly near the reef without damaging it, they have shown me on several occasions many animals that I had never seen before: Nudibranchs everywhere, an incredible biodiversity with dozens of different species and flatworms with incredible colours, sand worms with bizarre shapes, coral crabs and anemones crabs, cleaner shrimps and boxer shrimps, green turtles, different species of moray eels, crabs with shell adorned with anemones and corals, reef fishes, crocodile fish, butterfly fish, angelfish and colourful corals with large forms. An intact and healthy barrier!

After the safety stop we emerged and we waited for the dhow to collect us, on board eating a bit of fruit and Chapati between dives or a full meal and continuing with a second dive after the surface time. Coming back then after 40 minutes from the dive site, sailing in the afternoon is a pleasure after a day full of life.

Sono andato in vacanza ragazzi. Eh sì ogni tanto anche io vado a riposare per qualche giorno per riprendere le energie spese al lavoro, mi sembra doveroso non vi pare?

A questo punto vi chiederete, o forse non vi importa proprio nulla: “ dove va un etologo/ecologo, guida professionista di safari e guide trainer, quanto meno originale, che vive nella savana in Tanzania in uno dei più selvaggi e remoti parchi del continente madre, cioè l’Africa, quando va in vacanza?”

Semplice.

Vado in esplorazione di posti ugualmente wild e remoti. Mica posso perdere tempo no? Assecondo le mie passioni e pulsioni ogni volta che ho qualche giorno off e perciò ho deciso di andare a fare immersioni ed incredibili incontri in un paradiso tropicale di rara bellezza: Mafia Island. a -7.8537800 gradi Sud e 39.7804000 Est. Precisamente.

E qui ho avuto una delle esperienze più belle che potessi immaginare. Ho nuotato con il pesce più grande del mondo: lo Squalo Balena (Rinchodon typus).

Era da tempo che volevo farlo, è sempre stato uno dei miei desideri e ho deciso di esaudirlo. Ho scelto di farlo in modo responsabile e credo fortemente nel valore della scelta. È quella che determina il mondo come lo vorremmo e come tale deve essere consapevole e profonda. No excuses, siamo noi che possiamo cambiare le cose ogni giorno semplicemente scegliendo.

Lo Squalo Balena può raggiungere 13 m di lunghezza e al largo di Mafia Island c’è la più grande aggregazione residente conosciuta. Evidenze scientifiche ci dimostrano che non migrano, come in altre parti del mondo, ma vanno in acque profonde durante i mesi invernali da Aprile a Settembre, mentre risalgono in superficie e sono visibili da Ottobre a Marzo. L’80% di questi esemplari è di sesso maschile, anche se non si ha la minima idea del perché.

Per tutte queste ragioni ho prenotato con una compagnia che offre questo tipo di escursioni che si chiama KituKiblu letteralmente in Swahili “la piccola cosa blu” e sono rimasto decisamente soddisfatto. 

• Primo perché è fondata sul rispetto degli ecosistemi marini e delle forme di vita che ne fanno parte avendo esse il diritto di vivere libere ed indisturbate diminuendo al minimo l’impatto e l’interazione che possiamo avere con questi splendidi animali, senza disturbarli o stressarli senza ragione. 
• Secondo, perché la compagnia ha un codice di condotta chiaro e semplice che ognuno deve rispettare per i suddetti motivi. 
• Terzo perché sostiene la comunità locale per la protezione dello Squalo Balena e i progetti di ricerca e di conservazione a livello internazionale attraverso la Mafia Island Whale Shark Conservation Society (WHASCOS). 

Vi basta?

Ma passiamo alla pratica.

La macchina viene a prendervi in albergo alle 6 del mattino. Non fate quella faccia per favore! Le cose migliori della giornata capitano entro le 9:00 e tanto vale anche se siete in vacanza alzarvi presto per un’esperienza indimenticabile no? Avrete tempo per riposarvi più tardi, dai!

Il mio albergo è ad Est, mentre la sede di Kitukiblu è a ovest dell’isola, a Kilindoni, perciò c’è una mezz’oretta circa di auto da fare per raggiungere l’headquarter. Costeggiato l’aeroporto, si entra in un villaggio e dopo un paio di curve ci si ferma in una radura. Una ragazza bionda, decisamente carina e sorridente ci accoglie nello spiazzo, si tratta di una studentessa in biologia marina sudafricana che fa un periodo di volontariato/internship insieme ad una sua amica, altrettanto bionda e carina. Ci apre un piccolo cancello nella vegetazione e percorriamo un sentiero di 5 min nella foresta rigogliosa e tropicale.

Seconda sorpresa: i bungalows sono costruiti nella foresta in maniera tradizionale, perfettamente compatibili con l’ambiente e totalmente nascosti, in modo da avere il minor impatto possibile. Una meraviglia. Ci accomodiamo e ci viene servita una abbondante e deliziosa colazione con briefing introduttivo e pagamento dell’escursione. Parte dei soldi che si spendono costituiscono una piccola tassa e vanno direttamente alla comunità locale che li gestisce tra i pescatori in modo che questi abbiano un benefit diretto e si impegnino attivamente per la protezione e conservazione dello Squalo Balena. Un bel modello per sostenere sia la comunità che l’ambiente. Non vi pare? 

Maschera, pinne, boccaglio e scarponcini da sub, perché si cammina sulle rocce per un breve tratto a causa della bassa marea, e si sale sulla barca.

Terza sorpresa: si tratta di un Dhow, un’imbarcazione tradizionale della costa della Tanzania, diffusa in tutto l’oceano indiano occidentale, molto comoda e molto bella. Comincia la navigazione e a bordo il responsabile Jean, il suo vice e le due studentesse ci fanno una bella spiegazione sulla biologia e la conservazione del pesce più grande del mondo. In quanto biologo e guida non posso che apprezzare, chiara, semplice ed esaustiva allo stesso tempo. 

Il tempo non promette bene e comincia piovere, all’inizio non tanto forte poi più intensamente. Decidiamo di berci un te’ ed io ovviamente opto per un buon caffè. Sarà un po’ più difficile trovare lo squalo balena, non è molto semplice vederlo quando piove nonostante intorno a Mafia Island da Ottobre a Marzo ci sia la più grande concentrazione di questi splendidi animali del mondo.

Spendiamo un po’ di tempo sotto la pioggia che ci raffredda. La temperatura dell’acqua del mare è 28°C e io non vedo l’ora di buttarmi in acqua anche per riscaldarmi un po’. Abbiamo una piacevole conversazione con momenti esilaranti di docce non previste provenire dal cielo e dalla vela, spiegata per ripararci fino a quando non usciamo dalla zona piovosa. Fa parte dell’avventura e la rende anche più speciale delle altre direi. Avvistiamo una barca di pescatori che stanno ritirando le reti. All’interno ci sono due squali che, attirati dai piccoli pesci, sfruttano la possibilità di alimentarsi di plancton e appunto del pesce azzurro.

Ci buttiamo in acqua e ci avviciniamo. La rete è molto larga e a forza di braccia i pescatori la stringono lentamente. Trovo un passaggio e mi infilo nella rete. Improvvisamente gli squali appaiono davanti a me, un’emozione incredibile. Per un attimo mi dimentico che sono in acqua e cerco di spostarmi come se fossi sulla terra ferma, ma ovviamente non riesco e rimango fermo. Lo squalo più piccolo, 4 o 5 metri circa, mi viene dritto davanti con la bocca spalancata e appena si accorge che sono sulla sua traiettoria si sposta sulla mia destra, passandomi di fianco in tutta la sua lunghezza. Rimango letteralmente senza fiato. Infatti poco prima avevo fatto trattenuto lo stesso per immergermi in free dive ed avere una prospettiva un po’ più “marina” ma l’emozione mi ha fatto dimenticare e ho consumato tutta l’aria. Capita no?

Il secondo squalo mi passa sotto e questo è lungo circa 8 m, sembra non finire più nel suo lento e sinuoso movimento e rimango affascinato. L’emozione più grande ce l’ho quando questo cambia direzione ed in un secondo passaggio mi punta e mi passa sopra, avevo fatto free diving ancora una volta stando attento a non interferire con la sua traiettoria e con la sua ampia pinnata caudale, mi sposta di circa due metri solo con lo spostamento d’acqua del suo passaggio.

Potrei toccarlo quasi, ma ovviamente non lo faccio. Il codice di condotta è chiaro e intendo rispettarlo. Passa un po’ di tempo e la rete si chiude sempre di più, il primo squalo, quello più piccolo, è già uscito mentre quello più grande è rimasto all’interno. I pescatori sono attenti e liberano sempre gli squali. Mi trovo a poca distanza da quello più grande e un pescatore vicino a me si avvicina all’animale, mi guarda e spostiamo insieme la rete per permettergli di uscire, lo sguardo dello squalo è eloquente ed in un rapido movimento è fuori. Mi trovo piuttosto vicino e perciò non posso evitare un contatto con esso, questi mi da’ una pinnata caudale sul fianco e mi sposta letteralmente come se fossi un filo d’erba, scomparendo velocemente nel blu.

Cerco inutilmente di capire se posso avere un altro passaggio e magari vederlo ancora una volta e spendo 10 minuti in acqua da solo prima che la barca venga a prendermi. Nulla. Sto per salire sul Dhow e Jean mi dice tranquillo: “sta venendo verso di te”, metto la testa sott’acqua ed un altro passaggio sotto di me mi sorprende.

Salgo finalmente in barca e ci spostiamo in un’altra zona per cercare altri esemplari da vedere, intanto splende il sole, ne troviamo due ed il salto in acqua è più veloce e preciso, gli squali sono in mare aperto e si spostano molto più velocemente e frequentemente, inutile nuotare per cercare di raggiungerli, meglio aspettare che passino vicini e godere della loro vista. 

Spendiamo un’alta mezz’ora in acqua con loro, senza rincorrerli né disturbarli ed alla fine Jean ci chiede di rientrare in barca dicendoci: ”credo sia sufficiente per oggi, direi di rientrare e lasciarli in pace per il resto della giornata”. 

Tutti sono d’accordo, proseguiamo la navigazione verso terra con il sole alto nel cielo. 

È stata una giornata incredibile, vi consiglio di farlo, ovviamente in modo responsabile, non ne rimarrete delusi.

I’ve been on holidays guys. Yes sometimes even I'm going need to rest for a few days to renew my energy spent at work. It seems like a good idea right?

At this point you may wonder or perhaps not: "where does an ethologist / ecologist, professional guide and safari guides trainer, somewhat unusual guy who lives in the bush in Tanzania in one of the wildest and most remote parks of the mother continent, Africa, go when he goes on vacation? "

Simple.

I go to explore places equally wild and remote. I cannot waste my time, don’t you think? I follow my passions and drives whenever I have a few days off and so I decided to go diving and to seek incredible encounters in a tropical paradise of rare beauty: Mafia Island. -7.8537800 39.7804000 degrees South and East. To be precise.

And here I had one of the best experiences I could imagine. I swam with the largest fish in the world, the Whale Shark (Rinchodon typus).

I had wanted to do this for a long time, it has always been one of my wishes and so I decided to fulfil it. I chose to do it in a responsible way and I believe strongly in the value of this choice. It is a choice that determines the world as we would like it and as such must be conscious and thought-out decision. No excuses, we are the ones who can make a change every day by simply choosing.

The Whale Shark can reach 13 m in length and Mafia Island there is the largest known resident aggregation of the world. Scientific evidences show us that they do not migrate, as in other parts of the world. They live in deep water during the winter months from April to September, they rise to the surface and they are visible from October to March. The 80% of these specimens are male, even if we have not the slightest why.

For all these reasons I booked with a company that offers this kind of excursions called KituKiblu in Swahili literally meaning "the little blue thing" and I was very satisfied.

• First because it is founded on the respect of marine ecosystems and lifeforms that are part of them, giving them the right to live free and undisturbed while reducing to a minimum the impact and interaction that we have with these beautiful animals without disturbing them or stressing them without reason.

• Second, because the company has a clear code of conduct and simple that everyone must abide by for the above mentioned reasons.

• Third because it supports the research, conservation and the local community to protect the whale shark at an international level through the Mafia Island Whale Shark Conservation Society (WHASCOS).

So let’s go guys!

The car will pick you up at the hotel at 6am. Stop complaining now please! The best things of a day generally happen before 9:00 and you might as well get up early even if you are on vacation for an unforgettable experience don’t you think? You will have time to rest later, come on!

My hotel is in the East, while the headquarters of Kitukiblu is west of the island, Kilindoni, so there is about half an hour journey by car to go to reach the headquarters. Pass the airport, entering through a village and after a couple of corners you stop in a clearing. A blonde girl, very pretty and smiling welcomes us in the open space, she is a South African student in marine biology that is taking a period of voluntary / internship along with her friend, equally blonde and pretty. She opened a small gate in the vegetation and walk along a path for 5 minutes in the lush tropical forest.

Second surprise: the bungalows are built in the forest in the traditional way, perfectly compatible with the environment and totally hidden, in order to have the least possible impact. Wonderful. We sit and we are served a hearty and delicious breakfast with a briefing and pay. Part of the money you spend constitutes of a small fee that goes directly to the local community that is shared amongst the fishermen so that they have a direct benefit and actively act for the protection and conservation of the whale sharks. A beautiful model to support both the community and the environment. Do not you think?

Mask, fins, snorkel and diving boots, because you walk on the rocks a short distance because of the low tide, and you step on the boat.

Third surprise: it's a dhow, a traditional boat of the coast of Tanzania, spread throughout the western Indian Ocean, very comfortable and very nice. Navigation starts and the on board manager Jean, his deputy and two female students make us a nice explanation on the biology and conservation of the largest fish in the world. As biologist and guide I can appreciate the clear, simple and comprehensive information.

The weather does not bode well and it starts to rain, in the beginning not so strong then more intensely. We decide to have a warm drink and I obviously I go for a coffee. It will be a bit more difficult to find the whale sharks, it is not very easy to spot them when it rains despite that around Mafia Island from October to March there is the largest concentration of these beautiful animals in the world. We spend a bit of time in the rain that cools us down. The sea water temperature is 28 ° C and I cannot wait to jump in the water to warm up a bit. We have a nice conversation with hilarious moments unexpected showers are coming from the roof which is put up to shelter us until we pass the rainy area. It's part of the adventure and it makes it even more special. We spot a fishing boat that is pulling in its nets. Inside the nets are two whale sharks attracted by the small fish, taking the opportunity to feed on plankton and small fish.

We throw ourselves into the water and approach. The net is very large and is being pulled in by the fishermen using only their arms. I find an opening and I go inside the net. Suddenly the sharks appear in front of me, an incredible feeling. For a moment I forget that I am in the water and try to move as if I was on dry land, but of course I cannot, and remain still. The smaller shark, 4 or 5 meters long, comes straight ahead with his mouth wide open and as soon as it notices that I am in its way it moves to my right, passing its entire length beside me. I remain breathless. In fact, just before I had held my breath to dive in free dive and have an underwater perspective but the excitement made me forget and I used up all the air. It happens!

The second shark passes under me and it's about 8 m long, it seems to never end in a slow and graceful movement and I remain fascinated. The biggest thrill I had is when it changes direction and in a movement it passes over me, I was free diving again being careful not to get in its way and with its wide fin it moves me about two meters with only the water movement as it passes. I could almost touch it, but obviously I do not. The Code of Conduct is clear and I intend to respect it. I wait some time and net closes more and more, the first shark, the smallest one, has already got out while the larger one is still stuck inside. The fishermen are always careful and release the sharks. I am not far from the larger one and a fisherman near me approaches the animal, looks at me and we push down the net to allow it to get out. The shark looks relieved and in a quick motion it is out. I am pretty close and so I cannot avoid the contact with it as it gives me slap with its tail on the side and I literally move as if I were a blade of grass, and it quickly disappears into the blue.

I try in vain to see if I can spot the shark again and maybe see him again and I spend 10 minutes in the water alone before the boat comes to pick me up. I saw nothing. I'm about to climb back in the dhow and Jean tells me quietly, "he is coming to you," I put my head under water and another pass beneath me, surprising me.

Finally I get in the boat and we move to another area to look for other whale sharks. With the sun shining we find another two, the jump in to the water is faster and more precise, the sharks are further offshore and moving much faster, it is useless to try to reach them by swimming a better approach is to wait until one passes near you and enjoy the view of them.

We spend half an hour in the water with them without disturbing them or chasing them off and eventually Jean asks us to sail back saying: "I think it's enough for today, I would say to return home and leave them alone for the rest of the day."

Everyone agrees, we continue sailing back to the beach with the sun high in the sky.

It was an amazing day, I recommend you do it, of course in a responsible way and you will not be disappointed!
